Italian Rococo Era Painter, 1697-1768 Italian painter, etcher and draughtsman. He was the most distinguished Italian view painter of the 18th century. Apart from ten years spent in England he lived in Venice, and his fame rests above all on his views (vedute) of that city; some of these are purely topographical, others include festivals or ceremonial events. He also painted imaginary views (capriccios), although the demarcation between the real and the invented is never quite clearcut: his imaginary views often include realistically depicted elements, though in unexpected surroundings, and in a sense even his Venetian vedute are imaginary. He never merely re-created reality. He was highly successful with the English, helped in this by the British connoisseur JOSEPH SMITH, whose own large collection of Canaletto works was sold to King George III in 1762. Italian Baroque Era Painter, ca.1563-1639 Although he was eight years older than Caravaggio, he is nevertheless regarded as a Caravaggesque artist, so deeply was his mature style affected by his knowledge of the younger painter's art. His response to Caravaggio was intensely poetic, and none of Caravaggio's many gifted followers produced more beautiful pictures.
Ralph Albert Blakelock
(October 15, 1847 - August 9, 1919) was a romanticist painter from the United States. Ralph Blakelock was born in New York City on October 15, 1847. In 1864, Blakelock entered the Free Academy of the City of New York (now known as the City College) with aspirations of becoming a physician. After his third term he opted to dismiss his formal education and left college. From 1869-71 he traveled west, extensively wandering far from known civilization and spending time among the American Indians. Largely self-taught as an artist, he began producing competent landscapes, depicting select views from his travels, as well as scenes of American Indian life. His works were exhibited in the National Academy of Design. Moonlight, 1885, the Brooklyn MuseumIn 1877 Blakelock married Cora Rebecca Bailey; they had nine children. In art, Blakelock was a genius, yet, in business dealings and in monetary transactions he proved a failure. He found it difficult, if not crushing to maintain and support his wife and children. In desperation he found himself selling his paintings for extremely low prices, far beneath their known worth. In hopes of lifting his family from abject poverty, reportedly on the day his 9th child was born, Blakelock had offered a painting to a collector for $1000. The collector made a counter offer and after refusing the proposed sum Blakelock found himself in a bitter argument with his wife. After the domestic dispute, Blakelock returned to the patron and sold the painting for a much lesser sum. Defeated and frustrated, it is said he broke down and tore the cash into pieces. And so it was after such repeated failed business transactions that he began to suffer from extreme depression and eventually show symptoms of mental frailty. In 1899 he suffered a breakdown.

Egron Sellif Lundgren, född 18 december 1815 i Stockholm, död 16 december 1875 i Stockholm var en svensk konstnär och författare. Hans lite egendomliga förnamn är givet av en omtänksam fader som önskade sin lille nyfödde ett rofyllt liv, eg-ron. Egron Lundgren kan betecknas som den svenska akvarellkonstens fader. Han började först som oljemålare där han utförde genremålningar och historiska framställningar i tidens anda. Under sina många resor till Italien, Spanien och Indien fann han dock sitt rätta uttrycksmedel i akvarellen vars teknik han utvecklade till ett mästerskap. Han bosatte sig i mitten av 1850-talet i London där han hade stora framgångar som porträttmålare. Med London som utgångspunkt företog han sedan ytterligare resor både till Italien och Spanien men även till Egypten och Indien. Hans reportagemålningar från sepoyupproret i Indien anses utgöra en av höjdpunkterna i hans produktion. Hans akvarellteknik utvecklades med åren till en snabb, upplöst teknik i rena, klara färger och lätt penselföring. England med sina dimhöljda öar kom till fullt uttryck i arbetena från hans många resor. Sina sista år tillbringade Egron Lundgren i Stockholm men också därifrån fortsatte han sitt resande. Mest känd för en sentida publik har han blivit genom sina brev och dagboksanteckningar, utgivna under titeln En målares anteckningar 1 - 2 Egron Lundgrens väg i Södra Ängby, Stockholm är uppkallad efter Egron Lundgren.
